The department of Quantity Surveying in Enugu State University of Science & Technology is the oldest in the South East/South South Nigeria. The department is ICT and full Technology driven which makes her remain the best across the Niger. The department gave birth to other institutions within the region. We operate a self-demonstration and practical training to our scholars. A good students-teachers relationship that builds trust, honesty, dedication and hardwork was established in the department to aid in discussing, dissecting and digesting education.

Educational pursuit is deeper than acquisition of certificate. It requires establishing scholars’ tomorrow on the tenets of knowledge sharing and transfer. The root stems from planting their feet on sound moral godliness. We have undergraduate and post graduate programs such as PGD, MSC and PhD. Quantity Surveying Department in ESUT has a wider relationship with several State, National and International institutions.

We are the pacesetter in the Faculty and the University. We remain vibrant because of our irreplaceable role in the construction industry. To be efficient in our roles as cost engineers, construction economics, cost accountants, risks management and financial experts; we must be accommodating, disciplined, vast, organized and focused. In ESUT; we dream and bring it to reality. Join us today to build a sustainable future of purpose.

In the light of diminishing foreign exchange earnings, slump in the value of the Naira and most recently a decrease in the price of petroleum products, there is more than ever before a greater need for cost- consciousness and value for money approach on construction projects.

The construction requires this tuning-up if it is to redeem its image as a most inefficient industry and continue to contribute its quota to the development of the national economy

The role of the Quantity Surveyor in any economy is to provide cost information, cost advice and cost management for all construction projects such as: buildings, civil, other engineering or petrochemical works. QS collates, analysis and stores in easily retrievable forms, all data relevant to cost on construction projects. This often requires the Quantity Surveyor to have the ability to work with figures to high degrees of accuracy.

The Quantity Surveyor works in close collaboration with Architects, and Engineers other professionals concerned with the design and construction process and advices the clients on financial matters pertinent to the planning, construction and maintenance of construction projects.

The Quantity Surveyor may also find himself working for a contractor generally protecting his financial interest both from erosion by co-workers and by the client. The Quantity Surveyor thus has a wide range of employment opportunities both in the public and private sectors.

The philosophy of the Department of Quantity surveying of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology is aim at preparing the students to meet the challenges involved in ensuring financial probity in the conception, planning and execution of development projects (all forms of engineering infrastructure). The programme is therefore designed to provide the graduate Quantity Surveyors with the necessary theoretical base and practical skills to enable them think analytically within a multi-disciplinary field and provide cost and procurement expertise for all forms of infrastructural development projects.
